Fort Worth Police Department 'hires' Chewbacca in popular 'Star Wars' video

Chewbacca's life got turned upside down during the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. What has he been doing since then? Training to be a Fort Worth police officer, apparently.

A new, humorous video released by the Fort Worth Police Department on Wednesday depicts our favorite Wookiee's first day on the job. If you were wondering whether there would be a communication barrier between him and the citizens he's sworn to protect: Yes. Yes, there is.

As of this writing, the video already has 370,000 views on Facebook.

Chewbacca is a smart choice, really. Who else from the Star Wars universe would you trust to protect your community as part of the police force? Han is a scruffy-looking smuggler, Luke is currently a hermit, Rey needs a lot of training and Leia already has more than enough on her plate. Chewie is the most logical candidate for the job, even if he's clearly got some room to improve in his new role.

OK, sure, these officers made the right decision by not pursuing acting as their primary career, but they're clearly having fun here.

This isn't the first time FWPD has used Star Wars as a method of communication. Last year, Stormtroopers played the central role in the department's recruiting video, which now has more than 20 million views on Facebook.

The message at the end of this new video, done in the style of the iconic Star Wars opening crawl, is important and appreciated: "Attention rookies! Welcome to the Fort Worth Police Department! Remember to always show courtesy and respect to our citizens and always provide professional service. And may the Force be with you!"

They did, however, misspell "Wookiee." It's OK, FWPD. We've been there, too.
