Frisco's National Videogame Museum celebrates first anniversary with free admission April 1 and 2

The National Videogame Museum, located in the Frisco Discovery Center, is almost one year old. Calling itself the first museum in America dedicated entirely to video games (not including institutions like the Strong National Museum of Play, which features video games as well as toys and board games), the NVM attracts crowds with its collection of classic games and its many pieces of rare video game history. The museum hosts hard-to-find memorabilia, unreleased games, prototype hardware and much more.

Recently, new history was made at the museum's arcade, when master Joust player Lonnie McDonald broke the 9,999,999 score limit on the machine, making it the record 150th Joust cabinet on which he has performed that feat. It took him about six hours and was part of a multi-year quest to post a score of 9,999,999 on every Joust machine known to exist in America, at venues large and small.

"I've played on machines I had to disinfect before I'd touch them, I've played in cold storage, I've played in a garage -- a lot of collectors will have their collection in a garage or something -- with the rain on my back while I was playing," he says (you can check out a time-lapse video of him setting the record, as well as other video of McDonald at GuideLive.com/geek).
