Guide Geek: 'Final Fantasy XV' finally has a release date

After being in development for 10 years, Final Fantasy XV finally has a release date. The epic RPG will hit the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30.

The game's developer, Square Enix, wants to make sure you know that. Because according to them, the game needs to sell 10 million copies in order to break even. That's not a small number.

So naturally they're going all out for this thing, not only in marketing, but also in side content. During the same event where they announced the release date, Square Enix also revealed a computer generated tie-in movie featuring big name voices like Aaron Paul and Lena Headey, an anime prequel, a side game coming to mobile phones, a new demo and, oh yeah, Florence + The Machine covered the classic song "Stand By Me" for the game, because sure, why not?

I'll say this: I'm personally really excited to see what that game is like after anticipating it for so long.

Update: A Square Enix rep has since clarified the "10 million copies" statement:

"We believe there was a communication problem during the conference. In fact, Tabata was referencing 10 million copies only as a high goal which the development team set to realize their ambition to make the ultimate Final Fantasy game. And the comment was never meant to be referred as a recoup line of the investment."

I'm also pretty excited to see what a new Batman movie would be like if written by Ben Affleck. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has written one that the powers that be are interested in moving forward with, so that could be our first standalone moved about the Dark Knight in this post-Batman v Superman world.

I had a lot of problems with Batman v Superman and don't think it was a great movie, but Affleck was actually one of the best parts of it. His older, more battle-worn Batman was interesting to watch, so I'm willing to give Affleck a shot at writing his own take on the character.

If you want to keep yourself busy in the meantime, Nintendo might be able to help. This week they released their first mobile app, Miitomo.

It's not a game, though. It's a social networking app featuring Nintendo's popular Mii character designs. You basically create an avatar and then answer questions that will be shared with your friends. Stuff like, "What's your favorite food?" and "What did you do last weekend?" It may sound pointless at first, but it's a surprisingly fun way to learn more about the people you know.
