A couple months ago, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp posted a bunch of Instagram photos of concept art for his vision of a new movie in the Alien franchise. At the time, he referred to them as a thing of the past, implying that he had been toying with the idea of doing an Alien movie but that it wasn't something that was actually going to be made.
The Internet exploded with people who loved the idea of Blomkamp making the nextAlien sequel, and apparently the powers that be noticed, because this week Blomkamp posted a new picture of Alien concept art, saying, "I think it's officially my next film." Sources from 20th Century Fox reportedly confirmed the news to Variety, so it sounds like the project is definitely moving forward.
