Pretty sure those are twerking cows. And cows dancing ballet. Well, they're actually humans, dressed as cows, twerking and dancing ballet.
There's something oddly mesmerizing about these cow-gals, who hail from the small Texas town of Hallsville, two hours east of Dallas. Video of the Hallsville Bobcat Belles' hilarious "novelty dance" has gone viral since they competed at a dance show on Saturday at Lewisville High School, north of Dallas.
The dance was perfect for these dancers, says team instructor Kathryn Calaway: "Our high school is next to a cow pasture, so it's pretty fitting for our town!"
Just watch as they attempt to swish their hips inside giant suits that boing, boing each direction. It's so ridiculous, it's awesome.
And the delirious mash-up of songs? It's manic. There's "Proud to be a Cow" from Sesame Street and "Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing and "Milkshake" by Kelis. And so many others. (And back to the Dirty Dancing bit: Of course the famous lift makes an appearance. Smooth.)
Calaway tells us the Belles always like to make the audience laugh with their "novelty dances," and in the past they've dressed up as dancing grannies and dinosaurs. The dance earned them a special award for originality and creativity, Calaway says. The group was also honored with other awards: Best in Category for their pom, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, military and novelty routines, among several others.
"We'd hoped it would bring joy to our audience, but never expected it to go viral to an even bigger audience, but we hope it makes them smile as well!" the instructor says. "We're excited for them to have their well deserved moment in the spotlight."
Facebook says the video, posted by Shelbi Nicole Crawford, is up to over 8 million views. It's worth your 4 minutes.
