Inflatable obstacle course is splashing into Grapevine Lake

A new 25,000-square-foot waterpark called Altitude H2O has opened on Lake Grapevine for the summer. It's not next to the lake -- it's on the lake.

The inflatable obstacle course is a partnership between the city of Grapevine's Parks and Recreation Department and Altitude Trampoline Park in Fort Worth. According to a press release, the city is "always discovering new ways to make being outdoors and staying active fun for everyone," says Kevin Mitchell, director of Grapevine Parks and Recreation.

Amanda Rodriguez, marketing manager of Grapevine's Parks and Recreation Department, says that as a part of the city's development plan, a small group of youths said that one thing they wanted in their community was a water park.

"These kids travel with their families and experience these aqua parks," Rodriguez says. Dallas-Fort Worth is also home to more than a dozen water parks, including the popular and new Epic Waters in Grand Prairie.

Altitude H2O is located in Meadowmere Park on Grapevine Lake and ranges from $20 for a single session and $30 for a double. Each session lasts about 45 minutes and includes a 15-minute orientation, so expect to be there for an hour if you get a single session.

The course has over a dozen water-related obstacles, including inflatable hurdles, monkey bars, half-pipes and a trampoline. And while the website says that anyone can participate, kids have to be 6 years or older to join in. Anyone under 18 will also need a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and everyone participating must know how to swim.

Each person will get a life vest, and there will be life guards on duty, too. To ensure that attendees' toes aren't seared by the Texas sun, life guards have also been instructed to "wet the equipment" between sessions.

If you want to take the kids (or even yourself!), know that there's a fee to access to Meadowmere Park: It's $5 per day per car or $1 for walk-ups or bike riders.
