Fest so hard

This weekend marks the unofficial start of spring festival season, and already there's a fest for every flavor.

Since March 2 is Texas Independence Day, let's start with TexFest. This event hits the downtown Carrollton Square Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m., bringing with it Texas beer, Texas music, food, a live longhorn that you can take selfies with and a mechanical bull you can try you rodeo skills on. That event is free to attend.

If you're of Irish heritage or simply love the traditional food and music, you can find all that and more at the North Texas Irish Festival. Friday through Sunday, the festival comes to Fair Park to celebrate its 36th year. I mentioned food and music, but there will also be traditional Irish dancing, blacksmithing demos, and my personal favorite, whiskey tasting. Entry costs $5-$20 depending on which day you go.

This last fest is for anyone feeling active this weekend. The All Out Trinity festival includes a yoga class on the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, a series of runs from 1K up to 20K, bike rides and an outdoor market. The cost to register varies per event, but just know the fun starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.

And the Oscar goes to...

The Oscars are Sunday and if you're like me and you don't have cable, there are two theaters in Dallas hosting watch parties. The Texas Theatre in Oak Ciff is welcoming people as early as 5 p.m., while Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station opens its doors at 6 p.m. Both parties are free to attend.

In addition to popcorn, both venues sells beer and wine.

Tiney Ricciardi offers her weekend event picks every Thursday at 7:40 a.m. on KLIF-AM (570).
