Mardi Gras parties, monster trucks and more fun stuff to do in D-FW this weekend

Need weekend plans? We have you covered!

Big Easy vibes

Mardi Gras season culminates with over indulgence on Fat Tuesday, but you can get the spirit this weekend at several celebrations in D-FW. Sunday, the Mardi Gras Oak Cliff Parade makes its way through Dallas' Bishop Arts District for a 10th year. The parade starts at 4 p.m. and you can expect plenty of beads to be flying through the air. This event is free and kid-friendly, so it's a great way to celebrate with the whole family.

In McKinney, the party will include many four-legged fur balls. The Krewe of Barkus Dog Parade and Festival is a family favorite every year, with hundreds of dogs that come dressed in costume for the occasion. This year's theme "The Bark-A-Palzooa Tour Around the World," so dog costumes will be celebrating different countries and cultures. That event happens Sunday, as well.

If you want to take in some tunes, Mardi Gras Texas Style is an all-day festival happening at Fair Park on Saturday. Twenty country musicians from around the state, including Cody Johnson and Koe Wetzel, will hit the stage beginning at 2 p.m. There will also be food and beads. Tickets start at $36.50.

More family fun

Harry Potter fans in North Texas will want to grab their wands and head to Southfork Ranch this weekend for the Day of Magic Managed festival. Saturday and Sunday the venue is hosting classes you'd find in the novels and costume contests. I'm also told there will be Butterscotch beer. Tickets cost $12-$15 per day.

The Monster Jam monster truck rally comes to AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday. This is another great, if very different, event for families to attend together. Trucks are usually about 12 feet tall and weigh 10,000 pounds. They'll be racing and doing obstacle courses, sometimes crashing and flipping. Tickets start at $40.

Tiney Ricciardi offers her weekend event picks every Thursday at 7:40 a.m. on KLIF-AM (570).
