Who needs a box of chocolates or a nerve-wracking first date on Valentine's Day when you can celebrate Galentine's Day with your favorite ladies instead? Single or not, this squad-friendly holiday coined by Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation spells fun. (And while Galentine's Day is technically on Feb. 13, you're free to bend the rules. We are busy gals.)

Thursday, Feb. 8

Savor the Sweetness: Chocolate Festival Tasting Tour, 5-7 p.m. at various Central Market locations. Free with registration. Sweet! Gourmet grocery stores Central Market will set up more than a dozen tasting stations among its aisles. Find sweet and savory dishes like Mexican mole, cocoa-seasoned chicken drummettes and buttermilk bundt cake with white and dark chocolate ganache. Details.

Moulin Rouge Movie Party, 7:50 p.m. Alamo Drafthouse, Richardson. $12.99. Enjoy this exhilarating musical love story (and sing along) with no inhibitions. There's even a can-can dance contest to kick things off! Showings are also available on Sunday, Feb. 11 and 14 in Dallas and Tuesday, Feb. 13 in Richardson. Details.

Love Bites Music Video Party, 9 p.m. Alamo Drafthouse, Richardson. $12.99. Sing along to your favorite '80s ballads and heartbreak anthems in your big hair and outrageous outfits. An additional showing is Saturday, Feb. 10. Details.

Saturday, Feb. 10

Puppy Love, noon-4 p.m. Mutts Canine Cantina, Dallas. Free. Tito's Handmade Vodka, NoCoast Beer Co, Glazed Donuts and SPCA of Texas will be onsite with handcrafted cocktails and beers and local Valentine-themed donuts. A donation to SPCA will get you a slobbery smooch in the puppy kissing booth -- and a potential lifelong companion. (All dogs at the booth will be adoptable.) Details.

Valentine's Day Paint Sip and Poetry Night, 7-9:30 p.m. Lorenzo Hotel, Dallas. $50. Tickets include an artist-led paint class plus supplies, 16x20 take-home canvas and a dessert station (chocolate fondue fountain, strawberries, ice cream, tarts and more).
