Halloween happenings

Halloween isn't technically until Tuesday, Oct. 31, but this weekend is loaded with holiday events. If you have little ones, consider going to the zoo this weekend. Both the Dallas Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo are hosting special trick-or-treating events that include themed activities and, of course, access to look at the animals.

The Dallas Zoo is hosting Halloween Nights Thursday through Sunday, and when the park opens at 5 p.m., attendees can expect treat stations, scary arts and crafts, bounce houses, a haunted carousel and plenty other fun games. Admission here costs $10 per person and includes six coupons that can be redeemed for candy at trick or treat stations.

The Fort Worth Zoo is hosting Boo at the Zoo Friday through Sunday, which is largely the same concept. There will be live animal shows, crafts, music and more. Each person gets six coupons that can be redeemed for candy at the treat stations and there will also be a pumpkin patch. Entry costs $10 for children and $14 for adults.

Children younger than 2 years old get in free at both zoos, and costumes are highly encouraged.

If you're kids are a littler older, say in their teens, the National Videogame Museum in Frisco is hosting a Halloween Party and Costume Contest on Saturday. The museum will be open all day for kids and kids at heart to play spooky video games, and there will also be trick or treating stands there. Costume contests start at 5 p.m. Entry to the party costs $12 for those 11 years old and up, and $10 for those 10 years and younger; but if you're entering the costume contest you get in for half-price. Many of the attractions here are free, but there's also an arcade that might cost you to play.

Day of the Dead

In addition to Halloween celebrations, the city of Denton is hosting its annual Day of the Dead Festival on Saturday. This is a free, family-friendly event that brings residents to the downtown square for face painting, a coffin soapbox derby-style race, haunted houses, a costume contest and twilight parade. It's a ton of fun, even as a spectator. The event runs 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Rosé all day

If Halloween isn't your thing, there's an adult festival bound to satisfy. The Rose All Day Wine and Music Festival comes to Lee Park in Uptown Dallas for a day of drinking and live music. Rosé is typically a summer wine, but the festival is being billed as a breast cancer awareness event, and a portion of proceeds benefit AIRS Alliance and Reconstructive Surgery. Tickets start at $50.

Catch a show

And lastly, two huge music and comedy acts are coming to D-FW this weekend. First is Dave Chappelle, who is performing makeup dates for the shows he was scheduled for in August and September. You can catch him at Toyota Music Factory in Irving on Thursday and Friday night. Tickets start at $45.

Also on Friday night, the always enthralling Bruno Mars is performing at American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas in support of his newest album, 24K Magic. Tickets for this show are hard to come by, so you might want to look on resale sites for the best options.

Tiney Ricciardi offers her weekend event picks every Thursday morning at 7:40 a.m. on 570AM KLIF.
