Kick up some dust

Baby pigs, superstar musicians and midway rides: You gotta go to the North Texas Fair and Rodeo

The North Texas Fair and Rodeo kicks off this weekend in Denton. Starting Friday, the North Texas Fairgrounds will play host to livestock exhibits, midway rides, carnival food, pig races and, of course, rodeo events. The fair actually runs from Aug. 18 through 26, so there's plenty of time to get in on the action. And there will be great country artists playing on weekends, including Josh Abbott, Ryan Bingham and others. Tickets range $15-$20 per day depending on when you go, and kids 6 and under get in free.

Take the kids

Repticon Dallas

This next event is going to get a good one for kiddos. Repticon Dallas is a reptile and exotic animal showcase coming to the Grapevine Convention Center Saturday and Sunday. Think snakes, spiders, colorful frogs, that sort of thing. There will be live seminars and vendors selling the types of cages and feed necessary for the animals, just in case you decide you want one for your home. Tickets start at $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12. Your littlest ones get in free.

If you're looking for family fun that's a little less creepy-crawly, head to the 30th annual Highland Village Balloon Festival. Attendees can watch the hot air balloons here take flight or take a tethered ride in one of them. There will also be a 5K, car show, pancake breakfast and more. The festival runs Friday through Sunday and is free to attend.

Raise a pint

Riverside Shootout 2017

If you're feeling thirsty this weekend, Martin House Brewing Co. in Fort Worth is hosting an event bound to satisfy. On Saturday, local homebrewers will be at the brewery for the Riverside Shootout where they'll be serving samples of their latest brews. A $15 ticket buys a pint glass, three Martin House beers and bottomless home-brew samples. You can also expect live music and food trucks there.

Rock out

In the way of music this weekend, Ed Sheeran is performing at American Airlines Center on Friday night. Tickets are sold out, so you'll want to see if you can find them on secondary markets. On Saturday, Deep Purple and Alice Cooper are performing at Starplex Pavilion in Dallas. Tickets for that show start at $25.

Tiney Ricciardi offers her weekend event picks every Thursday morning at 7:40 a.m. on 570AM KLIF.
