Pups can pose for "Glamfur" photos at this festival Oct. 1 at the North Texas Fairgrounds in Denton. Other attractions include a canine couture fashion show, pet tricks and a singing dog contest.

Granbury Paranormal Expo

Ghost hunters and psychics will join fans of horror, sci-fi and cosplay at the Granbury Square Plaza on Oct. 1.  Oh, and there's also a Zombie Pub Crawl.

Rahr & Sons Oktoberfest 5K

Run, party, prost, y'all! Rahr Sons Brewing Co. in Fort Worth gets running on Oct. 1 with a 5K run/walk (complete with a beer-belly division) at 9 a.m., followed by an Oktoberfest after-party with a biergarten, stein hoisting, live German polka and other entertainment, Bavarian treats, plus zany contests and games. Proceeds benefit the Fort Worth Police Officers' Award Foundation.

World's Largest Furniture Refinishing Workshop

Head for Celina to try to help set a Guinness World Record for the "largest furniture restoration lesson (single venue)."  Adding to the surreal scene Oct. 1 in Celina's square, a drone will photograph participants.

Mutton bustin'

Little kids ride sheep as part of the festivities at Mesquite Championship Rodeo. Participants ages 4 and older who weigh 55 pounds or less are drawn at random from those who sign up at the arena. The rodeo runs Saturdays through Oct. 1.

Pull For Puppies

Teams of humans will take part in a tug-of-war tournament to benefit Operation Kindness at the Beach at Craig Ranch in McKinney on Oct. 8.

Dog Day Afternoon

Check out an attempt to set a new world record for the world's largest dog cake during this canine-centric fundraiser for no-kill shelter Operation Kindness.
