A dozen for Dad: Where to eat and drink for Father's Day

Zagat recently asked 775 dads around the country about dining out on Father's Day, and 52 percent answered that they'd rather eat at home that day. But, come on, this is Dallas.

We'll take any excuse to dine out. And Father's Day is an opportunity to indulge in a few other things Dallasites love: brunch, barbecue and local craft beer and spirits.

Asian Mint 

This fusion spot off Forest Lane will serve an a la carte brunch with breakfast-inspired Thai dishes, including bacon and egg pad Thai and crab fried rice with bacon and egg. Families are always welcome to take their own food and drinks for a picnic on the grounds, and the arboretum will also offer several dining options on Father's Day weekend.

On June 18 and 19, there will be $2 hot dogs, $2 root beers and a $12 Brats N Brews special that will include a choice of bratwurst, side and beer.

On June 19 only, an a la carte brunch menu will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Restaurant DeGolyer.

Fearing's 

Marshall Cooper, a pitmaster on the competitive circuit, and his son Mark Cooper will collaborate with the Fearing's staff on a three-course brunch. The Coopers will prepare barbecue favorites, and the Fearing's staff will make other entrees, plus sides, starters and a dessert trio. Flying Saucer Draught Emporium 

The Addison location of the beer bar chain will host a brunch featuring five fruity beers from Ballast Point Brewing Co. of San Diego and four fruit-focused dishes from chef Stephanie Foo of Kenny's Wood Fired Grill. The pairings will include Pineapple Sculpin IPA with coconut milk-braised pork belly, watermelon salad and a crispy waffle. Mi Día from Scratch

For Father's Day at the Plano location, chef Gabriel DeLeon will offer three pairings of food and margaritas that highlight his three main culinary influences: Tex-Mex and the cuisines of Mexico City and Santa Fe. The Mexican pairing will include a pork shank rubbed with achiote paste and roasted in a banana leaf served with a margarita made with El Mayor tequila añejo, Grand Marnier, lemon juice and agave nectar. The three pairings are $34 to $40 each. The restaurant's regular brunch and dinner menus will also be available. Pluckers Wing Bar 

This chicken wing chain with seven North Texas locations will give dads a free meal when they post a photo of their family dining at Pluckers on social media tagged with #Pluckers. Dads will be able to choose from the menu of wings and fried things to select an entree, side and nonalcoholic drink to create a meal valued at $15 or less. The Rustic 

This restaurant, bar and backyard concert venue in Uptown offers a family-style brunch for $16.95 per person every Saturday and Sunday with live music starting at 12:30 p.m. The menu includes Nashville hot chicken, smoked cheddar grits, baked eggs, sausage from Rudolph's Market, doughnuts and more. Add a Hog Wild cocktail made with bacon- infused Herman Marshall bourbon for $8.50 or a pitcher of Bloody Marys with pickled okra and beef straws for $20. June 18-19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 3656 Howell St., Dallas. 214-730-0596. therustic.com.

The Second Floor by Scott Gottlich 

Through Father's Day, this Westin Galleria Dallas restaurant will offer two trios. A sampler of meats -- grilled venison steak, confit rabbit leg and duck -- is $39 per person and a flight of whiskeys -- Hibiki Japanese Harmony, Auchentoshan Three Wood and Oban Little Bay -- is $26. Shannon Brewing Co. 

This Tarrant County taproom and brewery will host DadFest, a Father's Day event featuring several limited-release beers, including a hazelnut chocolate stout and a grapefruit IPA. Buy tickets in advance online to receive a commemorative pint glass and six pours of beer. Tickets at the door include a logo pint glass, three pints of the regular beers and a sample of a specialty brew. For Father's Day, this Far North Dallas steakhouse will offer its 18-ounce USDA prime bone-in rib-eye for $33 (the regular price is $53). Each steak will be served with whipped potatoes, creamed corn fresh off the cob, sugar snap peas, spring onions and sliced tomatoes. Add one of the new hickory-pineapple margaritas for $12 or a martini with bacon and blue cheese-stuffed olives for $13. Witherspoon Distillery 

This Old Town Lewisville producer of rum, bourbon and single malt whiskey will offer a special event on Father's Day.

Called Oaked and Smoked, it will include barbecue, whiskey-based desserts, live music, cigars and optional tours with the master distiller featuring tastings right from the barrels.

Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse 

This Texas-centric restaurant in the West End Historic District will offer three-course fixed-price brunches. Choose from four starters, three desserts and 10 main courses, including chicken-fried lobster eggs Benedict, smoked filet mignon, chicken and waffles, and three-egg omelet with house-smoked salmon. Each father will receive a beer from Dallas brewery Texas Ale Project in a keepsake Y.O.
