Granada Theater's new crawfish boil and zydeco music fest is this weekend

It's not yet spring, but it certainly feels like it -- that mystical, magical stretch of blue skies and breezy afternoons on patios before full-on Texas summer arrives.

Add one more way to enjoy the season, this time with a Cajun twist: The Granada Theater has announced its inaugural Bugs and Brews Festival on May 1. It sounds like so much fun, GuideLive has signed on as a media sponsor.

The rain or shine outdoor festival moves the "succulent tastes of the bayou to Lower Greenville Avenue's backyard for a classic Louisiana-style crawfish boil," organizers say, with the party going down from noon until 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot behind the theater. Perfect for anyone who likes "grubbing and chugging," a release promises, the "grubbing" part includes crawfish purchased in 2 or 4 pound packages. There will also be beer and "select non-crawfish" food available for purchase from vendors.

As for entertainment, the mini-jazz fest will feature two stages for eight musical acts including zydeco bands Rebirth Brass Band  and Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band -- both Grammy winners -- and rockers Roxy Roca, Rise and Shine, Mike and the Moonpies, The FreeloadersOil Boom and Leopold and his Fiction.

If you love the idea of a neighborhood party but don't do crawfish, don't fret: General admission and food package pricing is separate, meaning you can get in for $10-15 or come for the tunes and bites for $23-39, depending on when you buy tickets. Kids ages 10 and under eat free with an accompanying adult ticket. Buy tickets online here.
