5 cool, weird and nostalgic finds at Rocket Fizz candy and soda store in Frisco

Looking for tastes from childhood — and maybe a few new ones? Rocket Fizz, a recent addition to Frisco Square that sells around 1,000 types of candy, about 500 types of soda and plenty of quirky novelties, has you covered. The location at 6009 W. Main St. is part of a chain that started in California in 2007.

The background: Steve Farmer, a Lake Highlands High School grad who also owns Rocket Fizzes in Tyler and Houston, teamed up with business partner James Nelson to open the first Dallas-Fort Worth location. "It's all smiles, sugar and fake dog poop," says Farmer with a laugh (the original Rocket Fizz was financed in part through sales of faux doggie doo). Without further ado, here are five things to look for if you go.

1. Wacky sodas: A spin through the cases will net you plenty of things you probably never knew existed, including Martian Soda that glows in the dark under a black light, Judge Wapner Root Beer ("I sentence you to drink my root beer!," proclaims the label), a fruity Wink Martindale concoction and Lester's Fixins Bacon Soda. And speaking of bacon…

3. Old-timey faves: If it's been a million years since you've had a Mary Jane or a Cherry Mash, you can find 'em here. During a short visit to the store, I spotted several customers re-discovering favorites from their youths, including one 30-something lady who was very into Pop Rocks.

4. Answers to problems you never knew you had: Life is full of weird moments. Like the one where you realize that all the squirrels you see out and about are nude. If you feel the need to clothe them, you can buy some squirrel undies. (Also, there's fake vomit, a William Shakespeare air freshener for odors most foul and a Creepy Horse Man action figure. You get the idea.)

5. International candy: Japanese KitKats, including vanilla ice cream and pudding flavors; British fave Fry's Turkish Delight; and Australian licorice are among several types of global goodies at the store.
