2 new bars opening in Fort Worth soon, including one that sells vinyl records

Editor's note: This story has been updated with current open dates.

It's a good time to be a drinker in Fort Worth. Between the recent Fort Worth Cocktail Week and the upcoming North Texas Beer Week, of-age residents have numerous opportunities to indulge in the local booze scene. And this winter, there will be two more when Off The Record West and City Works open in Cowtown.

Here's the skinny on the two bars, one of which also sells vinyl records.

A sister location to Off the Record in Dallas, this hybrid bar and record shop is bound to be a mainstay for music lovers on the west side of the region. Expect 20 draft taps serving local and national craft beer brands, as well as a menu of cocktails at the new location on Magnolia Avenue. You'll be able to grab a libation and peruse a selection of vinyl records provided by Good Records, which is a Dallas institution.

Like its predecessor, Off the Record West will host live music and DJ nights.

Off the Record is the brainchild of Joshua Florence, Phil Coward and Tim Daniels, who also own and operate Club Dada, Independent Bar and Kitchen, and City Tavern in Dallas. Every spring, the team throws the beloved Homegrown Festival in Dallas, so they know their music.

Off the Record West is expected to open in mid-December.

  • Off the Record West, 715 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Saturday through Sunday noon to 2 a.m.

City Works

When Chicago-based Bottleneck Management was deciding the national markets in which to expand City Works, a craft beer-focused restaurant concept, Texas was a top pick.

"It was kind of the classic 'everything's bigger in Texas' situation," Angela Zoiss, vice president of marketing for Bottleneck, told GuideLive in August. "Some of the things we do are big and excessive, and we thought this seems to be a great fit."

She was talking about City Works' 90 draft beer taps, its extensive collection of TVs for sports-watching, and a 1.5-pound Bavarian pretzel on the restaurant's happy hour menu. Perhaps she was also talking about the business' launch here -- the first City Works location in Texas opened in Frisco over the summer, and the next is in Fort Worth at the Shop at Clearfork development, where local brewpub Malai Kitchen recently opened.

The Fort Worth location inhabits 6,000 square feet with room for up to 287 patrons. Opening date is scheduled for Dec. 9.

  • City Works (Fort Worth) 5288 Monahans Ave., Fort Worth. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 11:30 a.m. to midnight, Saturday 10:30 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
