Need a drink? New Irish pub now open in the Dallas Arts District

Belly up to the bar at The Playwright, a new Irish pub in Dallas, and you might just meet an Irishman. Owner Alan Kearney is from Dublin; his accent gives him away.

The Playwright is located in the Dallas Arts District, in One Arts Plaza, just a quick walk from the Winspear Opera House, Meyerson Symphony Center and the Wyly Theatre. Its bar is stocked with Irish whiskeys as well as Irish pub food like fish and chips and bangers and mash.

Kearney hopes he's created "an authentic and honest environment." That restaurant space at One Arts Plaza was most recently Proof + Pantry (but had also been Dali Wine Bar, a Mediterranean place called The Greek and a burger joint called The Commissary). You'd never know any of that, with the dark-wood renovation that makes The Playwright look like it's always been a beer bar.
