This churro and coffee bar has become Fort Worth's hottest late-night spot

Walking into Saint Sofia is like walking into a coffee shop in Madrid, the sweet smell of cinnamon-y churros and warm coffee wafting over you.

That’s exactly the inspiration behind the Fort Worth coffee and churro bar, says co-owner Tyler Casey. Saint Sofia is inspired by Churrería El Moro, a 24-hour churro shop in Mexico City that was inspired by Chocolatería San Ginés in Madrid, Spain. San Ginés has been open for over a century.

The Fort Worth menu is simple: Spanish-style churros covered with sugar and canela and served with hot chocolate sauce for dipping and European coffee drinks. Those items pair well with the menu next door at Casey’s congruent restaurant, La Zona, which includes Spanish tapas, cocktails and other small plates.

For those who love a good Instagram shot, Saint Sofia is located in a quaint white building with a light blue awning that originally functioned as a used car lot office in the 1960s, Casey says. Painted on the building in blue letters is the phrase “coffee and amor.” The inside of Saint Sofia is covered in blue and white tile. It has just enough room to make the churros, plus a coffee machine and two small tables.

Saint Sofia and La Zona share an outdoor patio seating area with string lights overhead. Some nights, there’s entertainment, such DJ sets and live performances, that fits right in with Magnolia Avenue’s lively weekend nightlife. There are also special events, including pop-up shops and movie nights that are projected on the side of La Zona. Some may even catch a free surprise Leon Bridges show there.

1264 W. Magnolia Ave., Fort Worth. Hours: 5 to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. lazonafw.com.
