Surprise! Dallas restaurant Primo's is reopening in its original spot in Uptown

Tex-Mex restaurant Primo's is returning to Uptown Dallas this summer.

Primo's operated at 3309 McKinney Ave. for nearly three decades before it closed in 2013. A restaurant by a similar name — Primo's MX Kitchen & Lounge — is expected to open at that same address late this summer. A press release calls the new Primo's "an evolved concept."

The original Primo's was "known for, among other things, $2 margaritas on Tuesdays, pretty women in oversized sunglasses, tortilla chips and cold beer and the occasional celeb sighting," The Dallas Morning News wrote in 2008, during a time when Primo's was hot hot hot. It was "impossible to find a table after 6 p.m." on Tuesdays, the story advised.

But "if you [were] standing and cute, you might find a new friend."

And so many did.

After Primo's closed, 3309 McKinney Ave. became home to So & So's and Parlay, bars that also attracted late-night, young crowds.

The new Primo's comes from Mehrdad Moayedi, president and CEO of Centurion American Development Group, and Jeffrey Kollinger, CEO of Spice of Life Catering and Tillman's Bishop Arts.

Primo's will be open for lunch, dinner and late-night. Some of the expected menu items include fried jalapeños stuffed with chicken and cheese; and chicken enchiladas verdes y crema. Cocktails include a vodka-Red Bull with blueberry compote and lemon whipped cream, and a serrano-chile-infused tequila drink.

Renderings of the restaurant show a white exterior with a tasteful patio that seats 40 people. The interior renderings show splashes of dark woods and greens, with a sit-down atmosphere that looks reserved.

Will diners turn it up to 11 like they did 11+ years ago? We'll have to wait and see.
