The poll lets the public vote once a day for 28 days, and participants are encouraged to share their votes on social media and watch a leaderboard to see which companies are currently winning. Surely you've seen these before: USA Today's polls include lots of other topics, like best Caribbean beach and best airport for dining, both still seeking votes. DFW International Airport is a contender for the latter. Dozens of other contests, some from 2018, include best new restaurant (Anthem in Austin won); best department store (Barneys New York got the top spot, though Dallas-based Neiman Marcus landed No. 2); and best ski town (Jasper, Alberta).

The list gets meta, too, with picks for best haunted hotel, best escape room and best small ship. (If you're a fine-print reader like we are, see the polls' official rules here.)

Legacy Hall was bested only by Keg and Case West 7th Market, a food hall in St. Paul, Minn.

Legacy Hall's inclusion on the list suggests, first, that it's popular. And that's true: Our dining critic Michalene Busico notes that it's a "magnet for social foodies," and that the three-story venue is often packed. The food hall also has a music venue called the Box Garden and a brewery called Unlawful Assembly. And it's located within Plano's buzzy, shoppable, fun development called Legacy West. Read: There are a lot of reasons to go to Legacy Hall, even for those who don't live in Collin County.

The trouble with Legacy Hall, Busico writes, is that "most of the food is utterly unremarkable." Beyond that, it's a bit of a dance to figure out how to get food, a drink and a seat, too.

None of the other food halls in Dallas-Fort Worth — and there are many — landed in USA Today's top 10.

"Since its opening in 2017, the goal was to create a destination to 'dine, drink and discover,' and we are thrilled that our efforts have been embraced and acknowledged by both our guests and the media," says Joseph A. Magliarditi, president/CEO of The Food Hall Co. parent company of Legacy Hall, in a statement.
