Yucatan Taco Stand has closed on Dallas' Lower Greenville

Yucatan Taco Stand on Greenville Avenue has closed after three years in business.

Co-owner Athena Navarro Hinkhouse calls it a "personal decision" to close the restaurant and focus on the more profitable Yucatan Taco Stands in Fort Worth and Houston, she says.

The taco shop made our list of best patios in Dallas, as its corner spot looked out over the buzz on Greenville Avenue and Bell Street. The Dallas shop served tacos, burritos, bowls and famously tall nachos.

Navarro Hinkhouse says her family now has "four kids in four schools this year," plus restaurants in several cities.

"Greenville was my baby, and my other babies needed me more," she says. "We just decided we should focus on our most profitable stores."

Fast-casual restaurants have not fared well on Greenville Avenue, with order-at-the-counter joints like like BBBop Seoul Kitchen, Crisp Salad Company and Pints & Quarts closing recently. And Dallas has big competition among taco joints: A Tacos Mariachi just signed a lease across Greenville Avenue from the former Yucatan Taco Stand. Popular restaurants like Tacodeli, Velvet Taco and Taco Heads have opened new shops in parts of Dallas recently.

A sign on the door of the former Yucatan Taco Stand dated Oct. 23, 2018 notes an "amazing three years here on Lower Greenville." Navarro Hinkhouse complimented the neighborhood.

"I love Greenville," she says. "We had a good life there and we're going to miss it."
