New coffee shop in Carrollton offers caffeinated (and educational) tours

A Carrollton family who started a coffee business in their garage 32 years ago has now opened a 50,000 square-foot facility in the same town. Parks Coffee now has an open-to-the-public coffee shop, cafe, retail store and roastery located near the George Bush Turnpike and Interstate 35E.

The Parks family business remains mostly focused on selling coffee to offices in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arizona and California. But the new 50,000 square-foot building means customers can take tours of the facility for $10 and see the coffee lab, roasting techniques and more, says founder Randy Parks. The tours end with a coffee tasting paired with desserts.

Bird Bakery in Highland Park Village will make most of the pastries and sandwiches for the cafe; its dessert will be part of the coffee tasting tours, too.

Parks Coffee exec Scott Parks believes customers will be excited that the new shop is locally operated — at a time when many coffee consumers in Dallas and beyond seem to enjoy supporting smaller, local businesses.

Parks Coffee is located at 1401 Macarthur Drive, Carrollton. The cafe is open 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day.
