On Oct. 1, 2018, wishes were granted, love was restored, when Whataburger announced it would be bringing back the A.1. Thick & Hearty Burger.
It's a two-patty beef burger with grilled onions, bacon, American cheese and A.1. Thick & Hearty sauce. And it has history deep in the heart of Texas. This is like Whataburger's version of the McRib, in terms of fast-food fervor. (And without that confusing boneless pork patty on the McRib. Anyway.)
The A.1.T&HB first landed on Whataburger menus in 1998. But in 2009, the burger was yanked from Whataburger's menu, only to be brought back occasionally but never permanently. There was even a petition on change.org to bring back this burger — one a Whataburger spokeswoman wrote was "one of Whataburger's most popular items ever."
Since Oct. 1, Whataburger's saying the A.1. Thick & Hearty Burger is back "for a limited time," with no explanation of what that might mean. So don't fall back in love yet. But sure, go get you one!
