TV show 'Burgers Brew & 'Que' spotlights 3 Texas restaurants in July

TV show Burgers, Brew & 'Que has spent time in New York City, Nashville and Cleveland. But it's time for the Cooking Channel crew, led by chef Michael Symon, to return to the place we love the most: Texas. Welcome, y'all!

On Season 4 of Burgers, Brew & 'Que, which premieres July 3, Symon visited three known restaurants in Texas. None of them are in Dallas. But perhaps these three Houston restaurants will inspire a roadtrip south on I-45.

Bernie's Burger Bus

In the premiere episode airing July 3, called "Smoking Meats and Summertime Eats," Symon hits restaurants in Charleston, South Carolina; Houston and Phoenix. Bernie's Burger Bus in Houston (which tallies three restaurants in the greater Houston area) offered Symon a giant-sounding burger with two beef patties and bacon-grilled cheese sandwiches for buns.

Or with:

Sandwiches as buns? This seems to be a thing: At a past State Fair of Texas in Dallas, patrons were treated to a hamburger topped with bacon and queso, then sandwiched between two small funnel cakes that served as buns.

Anyway, everything's bigger in Texas.

Moon Tower Inn

Have you ever had a rabbit meat hot dog? Same. During the Burgers, Brew & 'Que episode airing July 10, Symon samples such a dish from Moon Tower Inn, a neighborhood favorite on Canal Street in Houston. The rabbit dog comes with "chile pepper toppings so spicy, there's a release waiver to sign when ordering it," a press release says.

Fun fact: Moon Tower Inn's website is damngoodfoodcoldassbeer.com.

Roegels Barbecue

Perhaps the most exciting Texas restaurant featured on this season of Burgers, Brew & 'Que, especially for Central Texas barbecue fiends, is Roegels, the Houston joint that's one of the better barbecue places in the state. It doesn't appear that Symon will sample the beef ribs, one of Roegels' more popular items. The network says he tries burnt ends and jalapeno-glazed lamb.

Find the Roegel family -- married couple Russell and Misty -- on the show on July 17. Or, go see 'em in person, and don't leave without some banana pudding.

Burgers, Brew & 'Que airs at 8 p.m. starting in Tuesday, July 3 on Cooking Channel. The other cities he'll visit in Season 4 include Asheville, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Queens, New York; Phoenix and Atlanta.
