Wild About Harry's, a family-friendly staple on Knox Street in Dallas, is closing

Update at 10:30 a.m. April 24, 2018: This story has been updated after interviewing the president of Wild About Harry's.

You have until mid May to visit Wild About Harry's, the popular hot dog and custard shop on Knox Street in Dallas. After more than 20 years in business, the shop will be closing by May 15, possibly sooner.

"Thank you to everyone for their loyalty and friendship to Harry and staff over the last 22 yrs, making Knox a great place to home,"  says a post to the company's Instagram and Facebook pages.

Wild About Harry's other location, in Deep Ellum, is still open.

The Knox location is closing in part because the building is changing, says Sydney Coley-Berglund, president of Wild About Harry's. Wild About Harry's has already made a move, two doors down on Knox Street, in October, but they've now been asked to vacate by mid-May.

The block of Knox Street where Wild About Harry's is located has changed drastically since the late Harry Mead Coley Jr. opened there more than 20 years ago. Today, there's an Apple Store next door and a Trader Joe's around the corner.

The social media posts noted that the family is searching for a new spot to open a Wild About Harry's in Highland Park. If they can find a new address, Coley-Berglund hopes to bring the iconic, life-size Hot Dog Man statue that stood outside of the business for so many years.

It's been a bittersweet month for long-time sweet-treat shops in Dallas: Aunt Stelle's Sno-Cones announced it is closed for good after more than 50 years.

In its remaining days, Coley-Berglund expects to hear stories about families who built memories at Wild About Harry's. "This is his legacy," she says of her dad, the founder. "He wanted to create a friendly, family environment here on Knox Street. And he did."
