Now open: Stately coffee shop inside Dallas' revered Adolphus hotel

If you've driven past the Adolphus recently, it's been a construction zone, with tidy gates hiding a two-year redo. But if you ventured inside, you might have found the new, reimagined French Room, the more casual restaurant called City Hall Bistro, and a handsome bar.

Now, the Adolphus is revealing another addition: a coffee shop called Otto's Coffee & Fine Foods. It opened April 18 and is a noisy, fun place with slate grey walls and bustling baristas.

Otto's is named for Otto Schubert, who was the Adolphus' GM from 1928 to 1946, according to a press release. Current GM of food and beverage operations Anthony Couria calls it "the first and only truly Viennese coffee shop in Dallas."

Some of the Viennese touches include coffee served with a side of sparkling water and a chocolate cookie called a sable. Iced coffee can come with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, called eiskaffee. And they'll also serve Liège waffles topped with powdered sugar and fruit compote.

(Protip: Don't get all that extra sugar on top of your waffle. They're beautiful just the way they are.)

The coffee is made with Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters beans. The menu calls for lattes, cortados and nitro cold brews, with the addition of breakfast and lunch items. Breakfast: quiche Lorraine, bagels and Greek yogurt parfait and more. Lunch: grab 'n go lunch items such as a quinoa salad or an prosciutto, arugula and parmesan baguette.

On opening day, April 18, all visitors get free coffee from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Located inside the Adolphus hotel at 1321 Commerce St., Dallas.
