Velvet Taco now open near Greenville and University in Dallas

Casual, funky shop Velvet Taco is now selling tacos at its second restaurant in Dallas. Taco fiends looking for grub as late as 5 a.m. on weekends (yep, you read that right) will find it near Greenville Avenue and University Boulevard, just across Central Expressway from Southern Methodist University.

This newcomer marks three Velvet Tacos in Dallas-Fort Worth: the original at Knox/Henderson, one on West 7th in Fort Worth and now one on Upper Greenville. (The brand has also launched shops in Houston, Austin and Chicago.)

The new Velvet Taco will have a pick-up window on the side of the building that will sell a package of rotisserie chicken, six tortillas and two sides of elotes (grilled corn) for $20. Just ask for the "backdoor chicken."

Around front, the menu at Velvet Taco is eclectic, with taco fillings like spicy tikka chicken, fried paneer (cheese), pulled pork with gruyere, and more. Diners will find a few traditional breakfast tacos like bacon and egg, but taco purists will need to keep an open mind.

The restaurant also serves sides such as red-curry-coconut queso, elotes, and tater tots.

"We've always wanted to expand in Dallas, we were just waiting to find the perfect location," says Clay Dover, president of the brand, in a statement. "So now that we have, we are ready to open our doors to start serving our fresh take on the everyday taco."
