Vegan comfort food restaurant Spiral Diner has opened, quietly, in Denton

Vegans (and all comfort-food-lovers, really) have a new reason to cruise up to Denton. Spiral Diner soft-opened its new Denton location on Aug. 22 and anticipate a full opening this week.

Spiral's 15th birthday is Aug. 23, and that's one reason they're hoping to officially open their doors Wednesday, Aug. 23. After the first Fort Worth location opened 15 years ago, Spiral Diner expanded to Dallas in 2008.

The Denton location has been in the works for about a year. After debating several locations to scout, all four co-owners visited Denton. "It took like a one-day excursion up here to fall in love," says co-owner Amy McNutt. "It has a small-town feel, and everybody knows everybody and is super polite and friendly."

The new diner is in an old warehouse space in the Railyard complex, which McNutt says was ideal, as they were able to design the restaurant nearly from scratch. Plus, there's a "dreamy patio," she says.

The design was influenced in part by its 1950s building. "It has a little bit more of a mod decor [and] a little brighter color palette ... but the same old comfy booths and boomerang tables," McNutt says.

The menu, too, will be familiar to fans of the Dallas and Fort Worth locations, offering the same well-loved comfort-food vegan staples like the Nacho Supremo and Bacun Ranch Cheeseburger. Keep an eye on the rotating dessert menu too, which sometimes includes the chocolate mousse pie that made a star showing in the movie A Ghost Story.

More details will be announced on Spiral Diner's social media, but don't look for any additional fanfare around its opening.

"We're just going to do it," says McNutt. "[We're going to] be like Beyonce, and just drop it."
