Amsterdam Falafelshop in Deep Ellum has closed. A spokeswoman says the fast-casual business didn't get enough traffic.

"They have great reviews, people love them, but there wasn't enough foot traffic," says spokeswoman Bailey Hewitt.

14 notable vegetarian and vegan spots in Dallas-Fort Worth

Amsterdam Falafelshop is located on Commerce Street in Dallas, near Deep Ellum staples such as Angry Dog and Cane Rosso. (It was also near Luscher's Red Hots, another cool Deep Ellum restaurant that didn't make it.) It's one street over from the more bustling Main Street, which is home to Pecan Lodge and Braindead Brewing.

The neighborhood, known for its live music, has been in a state of flux since its '80s and '90s heyday. It also has a new property owner, which likely means new restaurants and retail.

Amsterdam Falafelshop opened in May 2016; the Deep Ellum spot was its first franchise in Texas. The shop sold, well, falafel, a Middle Eastern dish made of fried chickpeas, as well as shawarma, which is similar to a gyro and is made with shaved lamb. We called it one of the best places in D-FW to get vegetarian food.

Amsterdam Falafelshop closed in late July 2017.
