Double Dip Frozen Custard, a longtime shop in Frisco, has closed

Frisco friends, it's time to say goodbye to a local staple.

After 16 years in Frisco, Double Dip Frozen Custard has closed. Known for its old-fashioned vanilla and chocolate-based custard delicacies, Double Dip prided itself in being "Frisco's first and finest in frozen custard," according to its slogan.

The announcement comes after the shop re-located to 3288 W. Main Street last November. With the move, the shop extended its food menu to include burgers, grilled cheese, chicken strips and fries, alongside the existing custard confections, sandwiches and hot dogs.

In a Facebook statement on the shop's page, owner Lloyd Sheets wrote "after the move to the new location, our sales have not justified the business overhead."

Despite the same friendly faces and custard treats, the new location didn't share the same ambiance as the original location, according to Sheets.

"We just want to thank the community for allowing us to share a part of their lives and their children's lives. We are so grateful for all the employees, kids and families that have walked through our doors," Sheets tells GuideLive.

Within three days, Double Dip's Facebook post has already received over 300 shares and comments from fans, many of whom are trying to get their hands on one last caliche, the shop's specialty of custard mixed with various toppings.
