Village Burger Bar acquired by the restaurant group that owns Snuffer's

Firebird Restaurant Group, the company that owns well-known Dallas brand Snuffer's Restaurant and Bar, has acquired Village Burger Bar.

I know what you're thinking: Will CEO Mike Karns and his team turn all the existing Village Burger Bars into Snuffer's? No, says a spokesperson. Karns confirms that the menu will remain the same, too.

"We are committed to continuing the practices that have made [Village Burger Bar] successful over the years while also continuing to enhance the quality of this well-loved brand," Karns says in a statement.

What is more likely is that Village Burger Bar might expand. Firebird Restaurant Group also owns the famous El Fenix Mexican Restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as Meso Maya, Taqueria La Ventana and Tortaco. Growing restaurants is what Firebird does.

Village Burger Bar was previously owned by Mike and Susan Matta, who launched the restaurant in West Village in 2005. In addition to that location, the company has expanded to Allen, Plano and in North Dallas.

The restaurant sells "cheffed-up burgers," it says on its menu, as well as truffle fries, sweet potato fries and the like.

"We talked with a few groups, but Firebird Restaurant Group proved to be a perfect fit," Matta is quoted as saying in a press release. "They had a clear understanding of our brand and we felt like they would build on what we already have in place."
