Don't let the name DFW Restaurant Week fool you: It's actually a 20-day dining event, where more than 100 restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth offer special menus at a discounted price.
Now celebrating its 20th year, DFW Restaurant week means 20 percent of each meal goes to the North Texas Food Bank or to a kids and families foundation called Lena Pope.
Dinner at participating restaurants ranges from $39 to $49 per person -- often, a price cut at these high-end establishments. Lunch costs $20.
Note that the dinner prices have increased this year; dinner cost $35 to $45 in 2016.
3 things to know now about DFW Restaurant Week 2017:
- July 10 is the day that reservations open. Hop on to dfwrestaurantweek.com that day (or after) and snag lunch and dinner dates between Aug. 4 and 26. The more popular restaurants tend to fill up quickly.
- There's every cuisine imaginable. Many restaurants from past years agree to participate again. Check out the list below to see which restaurants you've been meaning to try. Restaurant Week might be the perfect time.
- There are a surprising number of restaurants outside of Dallas proper. If you live in Fort Worth or in the 'burbs, you're in luck.
DFW Restaurant Week technically runs Aug. 4-26, though that's broken up into the preview weekend Aug. 4-6, the main week Aug. 7-13 and then the optional extension of Restaurant Week specials through Aug. 20 or 26.
Restaurants can choose how long they offer their specials, which is why the deal may not be available all 20 days at some restaurants.
If you're a Calloway's Nursery shopper, stop in soon and get a certificate for every $25 spent. That certificate gets you an extra dinner course during Restaurant Week -- usually, an appetizer, palate cleanser or dessert.
Over its two decades, DFW Restaurant Week has donated nearly $7.5 million to non-profits, according to a press release. They hope to raise $1 million in 2017.
