Friday, June 2, is not simply the day before two days off of work. It's also National Doughnut Day, aka, the day to get yourself some free sweets — and take a dozen doughnuts to your coworkers if you're feeling charitable.
Here's how you get free stuff on National Donut Day in Dallas-Fort Worth:
Shops are listed in alphabetical order.
Dunkin' Donuts: Buy a drink, get a free doughnut. That's the deal. The day gets even sweeter for law enforcement: They'll receive 60 dozen doughnuts delivered to Dallas Police Department headquarters at 1400 S. Lamar St. If you don't work there, you'll have to get yourself to a Dunkin; find your D-FW Dunkin' here.
Glazed Donut Works: This shop has a busy day delivering 1,000 doughnuts to veterans in the hospital. For everybody else, visit Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum and get 13 doughnuts for 30 -- a $5 savings. (They encourage pre-orders; Glazed often sells out on National Doughnut Day.) Customers will also find random drawings for gift cards and swag. 2644 Elm St., Dallas.
Hypnotic Donuts: While everyone won't get freebies at these popular East Dallas and Denton doughnut shops, owners will randomly hand out boxes with gift cards, shirts and notes that magically make your entire purchase free. Cross your fingers that your box is one of the lucky ones. In Dallas: 9007 Garland Road. In Denton: 235 W. Hickory St.
Jarams Donuts: This shop in Far North Dallas is giving away a croissant doughnut hole for every $10 spent. Free is free! 17459 Preston Road (between Campbell and Frankford), Dallas.
Krispy Kreme: Get one doughnut for free, no purchase necessary. Dallas store is at 5118 Greenville Ave. Find other D-FW locations here.
Omni Dallas Hotel: At the Omni Dallas Hotel in downtown Dallas, the hotel is handing out free, housemade doughnuts on June 2 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the lobby. Want to dine at Texas Spice or the Owners Box, two of the restaurants inside the hotel? You'll go home with a warm bag of doughnut holes. Those at Texas Spice, specifically, can also pick a doughnut from the Wall of Donuts 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. -- a very real wall that we wished was available always. 555 S. Lamar St., Dallas.
Rise Biscuits Donuts: While this new Allen shop isn't giving away biscuits or doughnuts to customers, they will donate 10 percent of sales to the Salvation Army. And that feels good. The more you buy, the more goes to charity. 950 W. Stacy Road, Allen.
Shipley Do-Nuts: Customers purchasing at least one item will get a free glazed doughnut on National Doughnut Day. Find participating D-FW locations here.
