Is Starbucks' Unicorn Frappuccino magical or just mango?

Starbucks just launched its newest limited edition drink, the Unicorn Frappuccino. It's colorful, it's sparkly and Starbucks says it's "as fleeting as a rainbow." It will only be in stores between April 19 and 23.

So we bought four of them.

What should you expect from this "flavor and color-changing" drink?

We're gonna try Starbucks' new Unicorn Frappuccino, because our Wednesday needed a bit of magic.

It doesn't taste like what it looks like

With its colorful blend of pink, purple and blue, all of us at GuideLive went in expecting something like cotton candy. The color scheme reminded me of Nerds candy, personally, so I was prepared for something with that kind of sour kick.

Instead what we got was a lot of mango.

Like, a lot of mango.

That's what Unicorn Frappuccino really is, we decided. It's a mango smoothie hidden under bright colors, whipped cream and sparkly sprinkles.

I'm going to be honest: I feel like we were lied to.

Our group was split on whether or not we liked the frappuccino, but none of us thought it was disgusting. And it was certainly better than Starbucks' fruitcake gimmick from several months ago. It just wasn't what any of us were expecting.

The messaging is still fun, though

When I picked up our Unicorn Frappuccinos I was lucky enough to get a barista that was jazzed about the promotion. When I ordered four of them (which sounds like something only a crazy person would do), she said excitedly, "You must need a lot of magic today!"

And you know what? She was right. I do need a lot of magic today. And every day, while we're at it. Let's lean more into fun, fairytale nonsense to help us deal with the negativity around us. Just don't promise a rainbow and only give us the color orange.

Sarah Blaskovich, Tiney Ricciardi, Dawn Burkes, Shannon Sutlief, Charlie Scudder and a unicorn participated in this taste test.
