Austin invades Fort Worth: First Hopdoddy Burger Bar coming soon

Hopdoddy Burger Bar sells tricked-up burgers, fries dipped in green chili queso and milkshakes.

Cowtown will beef up its burger offerings when Hopdoddy Burger Bar opens in Fort Worth.

The Austin restaurant chain first landed in North Texas in 2012, at Preston Center. People waited in line. (It's what we do?)

Hopdoddy sells tricked-up burgers, some with the restaurant's signature "sassy sauce," a mix of mayo, horseradish and mustard. Hopdoddy is also known for its fries dipped in green chili queso. It also has a menu of milkshakes, both boozy and not.

Fort Worth's first Hopdoddy is expected to open in fall 2017 at Left Bank, a new development in the West Seventh area.

Way back in 2013, special contributor Mark Vamos offered these suggestions for Hopdoddy first timers:

"If you're a traditionalist, have the classic burger, which comes with lettuce, onion, tomato, "sassy sauce" (mayo, horseradish and mustard), and, if you wish, cheese and bacon. It's meaty, drippy and thoroughly satisfying. But really, you should try the more imaginative combinations, all of which come on airy, toasty buns baked in-house. These include the zippy Goodnight, with Tillamook cheddar, barbecue sauce, sliced jalapeños, caramelized onions and that sassy sauce. Or there's the Llano Poblano, a paean to chiles with pepper Jack, roasted poblanos, apple-smoked bacon and chipotle mayo. And if your tastes incline to such things, there's La Bandita, a patty of black beans and corn topped with avocado, goat cheese, cilantro pesto and chipotle mayo. The patty is actually pretty flavorsome and moist, though I have yet to see anyone actually finish a bean burger, here or anywhere else."

Hopdoddy currently has three restaurants in the Dallas area: at Preston Center, in Uptown and in Addison. There are also Hopdoddies in Austin, Houston, San Antonio and in Arizona, California and Colorado.
