Pizza-in-a-cone shop has landed in Mesquite

Pizza by the slice: so predictable, right? A new shop in Mesquite sells pizza in a cone.

Kono To-Go opened Sunday, Nov. 20, at Town East Mall in Mesquite. It's the second Kono To-Go in Texas and the first in Dallas-Fort Worth; the brand is also in Houston and in several other states.

Each cone-shaped pizza is baked in three minutes. Customers can choose from six pizza options such as the Meat Kone (mozzarella, tomato sauce, sausage, bacon and ham) and the Vegetarian Kone (mozzarella, tomato sauce, peppers, onions and broccoli).

There's also dessert cones like one with Ghirardelli chocolate, caramel and nuts.

The shop is owned by Garland man Frank Ovanessians, a former engineer who is getting back into the restaurant business, according to a statement from Kono To-Go.

The owner says the pizza cones "can be eaten the same way as an ice cream cone, except with biting instead of licking."

Kono To-Go isn't D-FW's first pizza-in-a-cone concept, as a place called Epic Cones is selling cone-shaped pizza in Arlington. (The company used to be located in Deep Ellum.)
