Starbucks leaves confusing taste of spring in your mouth, for a very limited time

Wait, were you were expecting a Cherry Blossom Frappuccino to taste like cherries? We kind of see your point. Despite its somewhat confusing nature, Starbucks' new, very limited edition drink aims to put a spring in your step.

Available now through March 20 -- the first day of spring -- the frosty offering bids a fond farewell to winter with a blend of strawberries, cream, white chocolate sauce and matcha drizzle.

What's matcha drizzle? See that kind of mossy-looking green stuff that seems to be growing with fecundity along the sides of the above-pictured cup? It's a processed green tea powder with a complex "vegetal" taste and a lingering sweetness. There's also some sprinkled on the drink's whipped cream topper like the lovely little clippings of a freshly mowed spring lawn.

The Cherry Blossoms referenced in the name are a nod to the Japanese sukura tradition. A release explains:

Or with:

"Families, friends and colleagues gather under sakura trees and enjoy picnics and parties under the delicate pink blooms, a tradition that dates back at least a thousand years."

"It is also time for new beginnings, marking both the coming of spring and the start of a new school year. Sakura festivals around the world honor the return of the cherry blossoms and celebrate Japanese culture."

Starbucks locations in Japan have been offering the beverage since 2010. The interesting combo for lovers of adventurous dessert drinks is available in local stores through Sunday, but not everyone is on board:
