Irwin Thompson/The Dallas Morning News

We thought this day might never come. On Monday, Nov. 2, Blue Bell Ice Cream is expected to return to soda shops and grocery stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area after a listeria outbreak kept the Texas tradition out of the market.

The first shipments of Blue Bell are expected to arrive in D-FW at about 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2. Our Karen Robinson-Jacobs reports five flavors will be available by the half-gallon and pint: Buttered Pecan, Cookies 'n Cream, Dutch Chocolate, Homemade Vanilla and The Great Divide.

In honor of Blue Bell's big return, Big State Fountain Grill in Irving will hand out free scoops from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 while supplies last. Each customer gets a single-scoop cone. The diner hopes to offer four out of the five flavors available.

Thank the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau; it's helping pay for the free scoops.
