McDonald's is testing sweet potato fries in Texas, but it's a long drive from Dallas

Fast-food giant McDonald's is adding sweet potato fries to select menus. Seems the company is not afraid to fry new things.

Two McDonald's stores in California and 18 in Amarillo, Texas, have been chosen as test kitchens for the sweet potato fries, says a company spokeswoman. (Amarillo, you might know, is a boring, 375-mile trek northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth. It's closer than Cali, though.)

The spokeswoman said the sweet potato sale is purely a test. "There is currently no plan to launch them nationally," she says. But never say never.

Sweet potato fries at the select locations will cost about $2.49 for a 16-ounce portion, CNN Money says.
