Company behind El Fenix, Snuffer's plans for two new Mexican restaurants in Fort Worth

In the first half of 2016, two Mexican-inspired restaurants are expected to open in Fort Worth.

Restaurant One: Meso Maya, a three-star Mexican restaurant that launched in north Dallas several years ago. Meso Maya also has a second restaurant in downtown Dallas, near the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The downtown Fort Worth restaurant, opening in a two-story space inside the Kress Building, makes three.

The Advocate reports that a fourth Meso Maya is rumored to open near Mockingbird Lane and Abrams Road in Dallas, but a spokeswoman wouldn't confirm it.

Restaurant Two: Tortaco, a new concept. We don't know much about it yet, other than it will be a "casual" restaurant with a full bar. CultureMap reports it will have tacos -- which makes sense, given the name. Tortaco will be located a few blocks from W. 7th Street in Fort Worth.

Nico Sanchez, executive chef at Meso Maya and Taqueria La Ventana, will oversee the menus at the new Meso Maya as well as Tortaco. The restaurants join Firebird Restaurant Group's portfolio, whose most famous brands are Tex-Mex spot El Fenix and burger joint Snuffer's Restaurant & Bar.
