Celebrate Texas-OU weekend in Dallas with pep(peroni)

It's a huge weekend in Dallas -- one of the biggest of the year. The University of Texas plays the University of Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl, smack in the middle of Fair Park during the State Fair of Texas. Nevermind whether the game will be a good one; that won't keep fans from picking a side, talking smack and guzzling beer. It's a Dallas tradition.

In addition to the parties around town and the fabulous drink specials, here's a weirder way to show your football pride. Greenville Avenue Pizza Company is making special UT and OU pepperoni pizzas. They cost $13.50 for a small, $16.50 for a large. Better get the large.

Glasses of a beer called Come and Take It are on special, for 88 cents each. The local brew, from Peticolas, is surely named after the Come and Take It cannon used during the first battle of the Texas Revolution. (Contemporarily, you may have seen the phrase on former Texas Gov. Rick Perry's Come and Take It boots, now retired.)

[UPDATE: The 88-cent beers, limit two per person, are 8 ounces, not a 16-ounce pint.]

It seems as though OU fans will be engaging in a Texas battle cry if they go for the 88-cent beer, no? That's their business.
