High-end grocery store Eatzi's to open in Fort Worth

In about a year, Eatzi's Market and Bakery is expected to open in Fort Worth.

The high-end grocer and take-out dinner spot is slated for a late 2016 or early 2017 debut.

Eatzi's sells specialty cheeses, sushi, wine, flowers and prepared food. I've heard stories of Dallasites skipping holiday cooking and just picking up items from the chef's case at Eatzi's. Grandma will never know!

The shop got its start on Oak Lawn Avenue in Dallas in 1996. Dallas restaurateur Phil Romano came up with the idea. Always one for theatrics, Romano says his vision for Eatzi's was to serve "beautiful food" with opera music playing in the background, he told The Dallas Morning News in an early September interview.

Eatzi's has gone through changes since then -- it's been bought more than once and has changed chefs -- but the beautiful food and opera music remains. Today, Eatzi's exist on Oak Lawn in Dallas, on Lovers Lane in Dallas, and in Plano and Grapevine.

The Fort Worth store will make five.

It will be located in the University Park Village Shopping Center, a block south of Interstate 30 and University Drive, in Fort Worth.

Adam Romo, CEO of Eatzi's, says Fort Worth is a fit for the shop. "Fort Worth is a fantastic city for food, retailing and entertainment. The consumers are educated, discerning and sophisticated foodies, and they demand what Eatzi's offers," he says in a statement.

Eatzi's will be built in a former Chili's. Here's why that's interesting: Chili's parent company Brinker International used to operate Eatzi's.
