Beyoncé-approved soul food restaurant is headed to Dallas

Frenchy's Chicken has been serving soul food in Houston for more than 40 years. Houston-born pop singer Beyoncé even gave a shout-out to the Creole and Southern food spot in her song "Bow Down/I Been On." And wouldn't you know: More than a few people outside of Beyoncé's hometown have now heard of Frenchy's.

Beyonce rapped about Frenchy's food in one of her songs. So if Queen Bey likes it ...

But currently, all 30 Frenchy's Chicken restaurants are in the Houston area, save one inside an H-E-B grocery store in Beaumont.

That's about to change, confirmed spokesman Clarence Estes. Frenchy's Chicken is planning expansions in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Beaumont. Dallas will be "the next big market," Estes says.

So far, no leases have been signed in Dallas-Fort Worth, and Estes couldn't say when he expects Frenchy's to pop up, or where.

After a Texas growth spurt, Estes says Frenchy's might expand nationally.

(Frenchy's Chicken shouldn't be confused with the orange Frenchy's vans in Denton. Those are for Frenchy's Lawn & Tree Service, an unaffiliated company.)

Estes explains Frenchy's Chicken's food as "southern food done right." Besides fried chicken, the New Orleans-inspired menu also has boudin (pork sausage made with rice), collard greens and catfish po boys.

More to come on where Frenchy's might land.
