You may be able to choose chorizo at Chipotle -- if folks in Kansas City like it first.

Kansas City is a test market for the new meat, and as of June 2, Chipotle customers in KC can add it to their burritos, bowls, tacos or salads for $6.95, The Kansas City Star reports.

For now, the proteins available at all other Chipotles are steak, chicken, carnitas (braised pork, reportedly in short supply), barbacoa (braised beef) and sofrita (shredded and braised tofu). Chipotle has rarely added new menu items in its 22 years of business, says Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle, in a statement.

Chorizo is seasoned pork sausage. Chipotle's chorizo recipe is a blend of pork and chicken that gets cooked on the grill and crumbled before landing in your burrito, bowl, taco or salad.

But don't expect it in Dallas soon. "The company has no immediate plans for expanding the test to other cities, but will consider expansion based on customer response to this new offering," reads a statement.
