Denton's Thin Line Fest returns with solid music lineup you can enjoy for free

If you love the idea of Austin's South By Southwest festival but aren't keen on crowds, consider the lesser-known Thin Line Fest in Denton coming up in April.

Now in its 11th year, the festival began as a multi-day film-focused event and grew to include concerts and photography exhibits. It's notably smaller than SXSW, but like the capital's signature multimedia festival, Thin Line is a citywide affair, taking over several venues near the downtown square for its different components. And like the unofficial parties that have sprung up around SXSW, the whole festival is free to attendees — no RSVP required.

Thin Line Fest takes place April 18-22. Today, GuideLive is excited to announce the lineup of musical talent you can expect to see throughout the event, including ground-breaking, all-female mariachi band Flor de Toloache and hip-hop group Shredders, featuring members of noteworthy Midwestern collective Doomtree.

Another promising highlight: Elk River Sessions, a group of Denton-based musicians who holed up in a cabin in the Ozark Mountains last year to write and a record an original album, aptly named the Elk River Sessions.

"Our community and region are so beautifully diverse, we feel that our festival should reflect that," says Dallas Guill, Thin Line music director. "From mariachi and metal, to country and jazz, I think you'll be hard pressed to find something that doesn't appeal to you at Thin Line."
