The first Riverfront Jazz Festival set the night to music Friday to kick off the weekend event.

Erykah Badu headlined the bill on opening night, which was peppered with North Texas talent. Badu was also an honorary co-chair of the event, put on by The Black Academy of Arts & Letters.

The event, which is setting itself up as a premier one for the city of Dallas, continued through Sunday with national and international jazz, blues and soul acts.
