Mesquite Rodeo Parade

Nearly six decades running, it’s back. Horses, drill teams, bands and community groups will make their way through downtown Mesquite during its rodeo parade. This year’s theme celebrates everyday heroes. Grand Marshal is Matthew Hernandez, 2015 Special Olympics world games silver medalist in the 500-meter kayak race. The parade brings together community groups, sports teams, civic clubs and churches. Expect to see local officials, Mesquite ISD high school marching bands and drill teams, as well as equestrian teams. The parade starts at Belt Line at Newsom roads, proceeds through downtown Mesquite and ends at Galloway Avenue at New Market Road.

  • The parade kicks off April 2 at 10 a.m. at Mesquite City Hall, 711 N. Galloway Ave., Mesquite. Free.

Frisco Crawfish Festival

The first installment of what organizers hope will become an annual tradition offers a festival experience in addition to an estimated 3,000 pounds of crawfish from Cajun Crawfish Co. The family-friendly event will have bounce houses and Mardi Gras beads for the kids and music by Matthew R. Bell & Sons of Rio and Zydeco Stingrays. An adult ticket gets you three pounds of crawfish for $20; a kids’ plate offers 1.5 pounds of crawfish for $10. New potatoes and corn come with each meal. Organizers ask attendees to buy tickets in advance so they know how much food to have on hand.  ... Since you're already in Frisco, you can head over to Arts in the Square, where more than 120 local and regional artists will greet festivalgoers and sell their work along with live music and art-making activities. The Art fest runs April 2-3 in Frisco Square.
