5 fun fests this week: Comedy, music and the return of a Dallas Easter tradition

On the agenda for this weekend's fun: the Dallas Comedy Festival, the return of the beloved Easter in Lee Park, the Local Brews, Local Grooves festival, the 20th anniversary of the Texas Music Revolution and a tribute art show to the late Tejano singer Selena.

Take advantage of back-to-back shows at the seventh annual festival showcasing top-notch local and national talent performing improv, sketch and stand-up comedy. Headliners include Ithamar Enriquez and Frank Caeti, as well as the Katydids, an ensemble of six whose names are all derived from Katherine, who are the stars of TV Land's Teachers.

Easter in Lee Park

After being canceled in 2015, Easter festivities including the famed Petropolitan Pooch Parade return to Robert E. Lee Park in Dallas. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the celebration. Bring a picnic basket and blanket for an afternoon of live music, an Easter egg hunt and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. Well behaved, leashed pets are welcome (no retractable leashes). At 2 p.m., the Pooch Parade steps off with more than 250 costumed dogs making their way down Turtle Creek Boulevard, with winners selected by a panel of celebrity judges. Nonprofit animal rescue organizations will be on-site with adoptable pets.

  • March 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Robert E. Lee Park, 3400 Turtle Creek Blvd., Dallas. The parade is free for viewers; registration to enter the parade is $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the event.

Local Brews, Local Grooves

The House of Blues' third annual festival will feature more than a dozen local craft breweries, including Community Beer Co., Peticolas Brewing Co. and Nine Band Brewing, and 18 musical acts, including Telegraph Canyon, Kaela Sinclair and Blue, the Misfit.

  • March 26 at 4 p.m. at 2200 N. Lamar St., Dallas. Advance tickets are $14 per person; sampling wristbands with five tabs redeemable for beer, food and nonalcoholic drinks are $15; VIP packages, which include two tickets, two sampling wristbands, entry at 3 p.m. and more, are $60. 20th Anniversary Texas Music Revolution

The Texas Music Revolution festival presented by 95.3 The Range expands to two days for the first time with 18 bands on 2 stages at Oak Point Park Amphitheater in Plano. On Friday, performers include Lee Ann Womack, Chris Knight, John Moreland and Quaker City Night Hawks; on Saturday, acts include Stoney LaRue, Mike Ryan, Zame Williams and The O's. Bring blankets or soft collapsible chairs and make your own picnic from the many food and drink vendors on site.

'Anything for Selenas'

A pop-up art show at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center celebrates the late singer Selena, who was called "The Queen of Tejano" and was on her way to becoming an international pop sensation when she was murdered March 31, 1995, by the president of her fan club. Sour Grapes Art Collective is curating the show and the Faded Deejays will provide music for the event.

  • A reception for the show is March 25 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, 223 W. Jefferson Blvd., Dallas. Free.
