Arts, Antiques and Autos Extravaganza

Spend the day on the Denton square and enjoy activities such as art and crafts, games and live music, as well as eating festival foods. Watch artists of all ages try their hands at outdoor art during the chalk fest at West Oak near the corners of Cedar and Elm streets, or find out if you have hidden gems at Attic Treasures appraisals at Amyx Fine Jewelry. The car show features hot rods, classic and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles; an awards ceremony on the Elm Street side of the courthouse takes place at 2:30 p.m. While you're in the area, do some shopping at downtown stores or stop at one of the area's many restaurants.

Dallas Fiestas Patrias

Fiestas Patrias are frequently associated with Mexican independence and often end with re-enactments of the grito, or shout, the 1810 call for independence from Spain made by priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla.

The Latino Cultural Center and the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts have teamed up to present ballet folklorico, music, and arts-and-crafts workshops. The grito will come at the end of the festival.

BrewFest

Taste beers from more than 400 breweries at the Dallas Observer's fifth annual event. More than two dozen local breweries will participate, including Rahr & Sons Brewing Co., Oak Highlands Brewery and Three Nations Brewing Co.

Admission includes 12 2-ounce samples. There'll also be music from Larry g(EE) and Charley Crockett. It's $45 per person in advance, $55 at the door. Must be 21 or older to attend.

Dog Splash

It's a big dog splash weekend, which means end-of-season canine swimming events at several  local pools and water parks. In Grand Prairie, the Splash Factory interactive water park is open for canines of every size and their human families. Play areas include a water wall, spray cannons, power geysers and other interactive water features.

Comerica Jubilee of Cultures 

Expect music, dance, food and presentations from many cultures at this fest. Cambodian fan dancing, ballet folklorico, lion dancing and matachines will be among the sights to see.

It's all happening at a new park with a charming gazebo in downtown Carrollton. An exhibit of art from students of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD will be featured at the nearby Plaza Arts Center.
