Sunday Funday

Feel like having a lazy Sunday? It's hard to beat a day spent on the river. Sunday Funday is a laid-back, family-friendly summer series that takes place along the banks of - and in - the Trinity River at Fort Worth's Panther Island Pavilion. You can spend some time tubing, playing paddle sports and disc golf and participating in stand-up paddle board yoga.

Then lie back with a craft beer from Panther Island Brewing and just relax. Take blankets, chairs, games or anything else that would be fun in the sun. No outside coolers, food or drinks are permitted. Take pets on leashes - the event supports the Humane Society of North Texas with proceeds from T-shirt purchases. Still on the fence? Let's Play

Another weekend, another gaming convention in town (seriously, there's enough gaming and other geektacular stuff to keep our Britton Peele really busy, get the latest here). This event, however, has a more retro vibe than some others, featuring more than 75 arcade games set to free play.

Inspired by the YouTube "Let's Play" video channel, the expo also offers more than 80 tables - there will be vendors selling games and gaming paraphernalia, video game panel discussions and tournaments that include Smash Bros., retro games and a Tetris world championship qualifier.

August Dollar Days at the Dallas Arboretum

OK, we're stretching our regular definition of fest here, but it's such a good deal (and, dude, it's just how it is in August in North Texas). Embrace the summer heat and save big on admission and concessions at the arboretum during August Dollar Days.

If purchased at the gate, general garden admission is $1 and admission to the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden is $2. Treats available for $1-$2 include hot dogs, juice boxes and icy root beer floats. Reduced-price parking is also available for $8, online only.

Raptors of Summer

Get back to nature and learn about birds of prey that call North Texas home. Blackland Prairie Raptor Center naturalists will introduce families to a variety of summer raptors such as red-tailed and Swainson's hawks as well as owls and falcons. Right now, the center is only open to the public during First Saturday events like this one.

Guests can also visit the center's new bird blind and peek at birds that drink at the drip pond. Guests are welcome to take a picnic and hike the surrounding trails.
